That's always bugged me. PAL TV has a logical 25 fps framerate, given that UK electricity is transmitted at 50Hz, and that can be used to time a CRT's scan rate to 50 fields per second, 25 interlaced frames.

The US has its electricity at 60Hz AC, and you'd expect their CRT TVs to be 60 fields per second, 30 interlaced frames, but it's this weird 29.97-ish frame rate...
